Our History
Mary Cordill established English Traditions in 1992. It all started in Wilton, Connecticut in 1985. Mary happened to walk into a local antique store that imported 19th-century English & Irish pine furniture. After many visits to the shop, the owner offered her a sales position. Working with the antique furniture and accessories seemed like a dream come true. She felt that European antique pine had a simple comfort and practicality unlike other antiques. The pine antiques fit with people's everyday lifestyle and budget. After working in the store for over a year, the owner invited her to invest in the accessories part of the business. With this opportunity she began her search for the most unique items she could find throughout Europe.
In 1992, Mary and her family were transferred to Cincinnati, Ohio. After leaving behind the job she loved in Connecticut, she began browsing the local antique stores in search of European pine antiques. Although there were wonderful antique stores in Cincinnati, she could not find the country furniture she knew and loved. She took the plunge and rented a 400 sq. ft. store in O'Bryonville, Cincinnati. After a buying trip to England and Ireland her first “New Shipment” banner went up and English Traditions was born. Soon after, Mary's son, Casey, joined English Traditions. Casey brought his design experience, superb taste, and fresh perspective and helped English Traditions continue to grow.

In 2002, English Traditions moved to Hyde Park Square and expanded into English Traditions, European Home Collections featuring a mixture of European Antiques, European-made Replica Furniture, Custom Upholstery, Lighting, Accessories and beautiful artwork by local artists. We also began providing complimentary in-store and in-home design services.
Almost 9 years ago, Mary and Casey opened an additional location on exclusive Fifth Avenue in Naples, Florida, where Mary now resides most of the year. This store brings English Traditions' unique, timeless, & classic style both to Floridians and snowbirds, many of whom feature our items in their homes across the country.
Today
After 10 years on Hyde Park Square, English Traditions has moved "back to our roots" in O'Bryonville. In our new expanded location, we are able to focus even more on custom interior design services, and feature more of our beautiful European antiques, art, and accessories. We also continue to feature custom reproduction furniture made in England and France. If you can conceive it, we can make it. Clients often bring pictures from a magazine or book and say, "this is what I want" and we are happy to oblige. Our peerless quality pieces become instant heirlooms and will last for generations.
About three times a year, Mary and Casey travel to England and France to personally select each and every antique and accessory that we feature in our two locations. Their exquisite taste and timeless style is evident throughout our stores, and English Traditions has become a premier shopping destination for one-of-a-kind antiques, high-end upholstery, beautiful local artwork, quality lighting, and unique accessories.
Everything is still centered on the unique antiques Mary and Casey handpick in Europe because as Mary is quick to say "Our passion is European Antiques!"
